100 Island Challenge Collection
The goal of this study is to conduct a large-scale natural experiment, investigating the independent and interactive effects of oceanography and human activities in affecting the structure and dynamics of coral reef communities. The natural experimental design uses islands as statistical replicates, as we select focal islands and reefs to span a diversity of combinations of human activity, oceanographic conditions (principally temperature and nutrient delivery), and island geomorphology. Critically, we are controlling for within-island variables by conducting the core surveys within the same habitat type – leeward, forereef habitat at 7-15m depth.

Abraham A. Palmer Lab Research Data Collection
We are interested in the relationship between genes and behavior. By identifying genes that influence behavior we hope to obtain fundamental mechanistic insights into the molecular basis of both health and disease. Our research uses mice, rats, and humans in pursuit of these goals. A major focus of our work is on refining methods for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in model organisms. Past efforts to identify chromosomal regions that are associated with behavioral and other traits have used intercrosses (F2s), recombinant inbred (RI) strains, and related populations to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs). While quite successful, these approaches have been …

Aerosol and Cloud Observations in La Jolla, CA, in May-June 2011 during SOLEDAD (Stratocumulus Observations of Los-Angeles Emissions Derived Aerosol-Droplets)
The SOLEDAD campaign consisted of ground-based measurements located near the peak of Mt. Soledad, 251 m above sea level at 1 km from the Pacific coast. Measurements collected for 49 days (1 May to 18 June, 2012) include: particle-cloud partitioning of elemental carbon [Schroder et al., 2014], and salt particle contributions to cloud droplets [Modini et al., 2015]. Measurements on 1 June and 13 June, 2012, of two cloud events contained sufficient observations for characterizing droplet size and composition of the stratocumulus clouds. Chemical composition and aerosol size distribution used to initialize the models were collected inside the instrument container; …

Aerosol Composition and Size Measurements at Fresno and Fontana
Comprehensive aerosol measurements were carried out during winter (19 December 2014 to 13 January 2015) in Fresno (San Joaquin Valley) and summer (4 to 28 July 2015) in Fontana (Southern California Air Basin). The sampling site in Fresno, managed by University of California Davis, was located behind the UC extension building at 550 Shaw Ave. (36.810 N, 119.780 W). Residential buildings to the north, commercial complexes to the south, and the Yosemite Freeway to the west of sampling location allowed repeated daily measurements of both the residential wood burning and traffic emissions in Fresno. The sampling site in Fontana, managed …

Aerosol Measurements at Utqiagvik, Alaska, from 2022 to 2027 for Sustaining The Utqiagvik Aerosol Record of Decades (STUARD)
The Arctic is warming faster than any other place on Earth, with sea ice declining rapidly and sources of sea spray and biogenic aerosol emissions changing by consequence. Utqiagvik is at the forefront of this change, abutting one of the largest areas of sea ice loss. This change will have far-reaching impacts to both the environment and the community. Because this change has happened largely in the last decade, now is an important time to both document that change and to continue a data record that will allow for a characterization of the New Arctic, as climate is already altering …

Aerosol Microphysics and Chemical Measurements at Mt. Soledad and Scripps Pier during the Eastern Pacific Cloud Aerosol Precipitation Experiment (EPCAPE) from February 2023 to February 2024
This dataset includes aerosol microphysics and chemical measurements collected at Mt. Soledad and Scripps Pier during the Eastern Pacific Cloud Aerosol Precipitation Experiment (EPCAPE) from February 2023 to February 2024. The measurements include the following instruments at Mt. Soledad: High-Resolution Time-of-Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS, Aerodyne), Scanning Electrical Mobility Spectrometer (SEMS, Brechtel Manufacturing Inc.), Aerodynamic Particle Sizer (APS, Droplet Measurements Technologies), Single Particle Soot Photometer (SP2, Drople Measurements Technologies), Meteorological Station (WXT520, Vaisala), Ozone (Teco), and trace gas proxies (Teledyne). In addition, the analyses of particle filters collected at Mt. Soledad for three dry-diameter size cuts (<1 micron, <0.5 micron, …

Aerosol Particle Chemical and Physical Measurements on the 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 North Atlantic Aerosols and Marine Ecosystems Study (NAAMES) Research Cruises
Comprehensive aerosol measurements were collected as a part of interdisciplinary North Atlantic Aerosol and Marine Ecosystem Study (NAAMES). The four NAAMES research cruises measured aerosol particle properties on the R/V Atlantis in the North Atlantic Ocean in 2015 (6 November to 1 December), 2016 (11 May to 5 June), 2017 (30 August to 24 September), and 2018 (20 March to 13 April). The particle mass concentration, size distribution, and chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols were measured during both cruises. Ambient air containing marine aerosols up to several micrometers was sampled using a common inlet about 18 m above sea level. …

Alaska Commercial Company Records
The Alaska Commercial Company was a San Francisco firm that purchased the assets of the Russian-American Co. in 1867. The company supported the Alaskan fur trade by providing steamship transportation, general merchandising, and other commercial and financial services. The company had offices at Unalaska on Unalaska Island, at Unga on Unga Island, and at St. Michael on the west coast of Alaska in the Norton Sound. The collection contains a small body of business correspondence and records, including 34 letters written from early March to 12 October 1897 between agents Otto W. Carlson at Unga, R. T. Lying and James …

Alfred North Correspondence and Other Documents
Correspondence and a journal from the papers of Alfred North (1807-1869), an American Presbyterian minister who served on international missions in Singapore from 1836 to 1843, and Madura, India from 1843 to 1847. Returning to the United States, North devoted himself to home missions in Trenton, Middlefield, Pittsford, LeRoy, and Attica, New York; Kansas City, Kansas; Tipton, Missouri; and Chilton, Wisconsin. The bulk of the correspondence consists of letters written by North to his friend and fellow preacher A. P. Marvin, dating from 1856 to 1867. The letters primarily document North's personal reflections on religious life and morality, but also …

Alice Notley Artworks
This collection represents a selection of artworks by American visual artist and poet Alice Notley, drawn from the Alice Notley Papers at UC San Diego Library. Images include collages, fans, masks and sketches. Describing her art, Notley wrote, "I think my collages resemble my poems, though they're not vocal. They reflect my conception of language being as infinitely dimensioned as a person or the physical world of objects, of being always intertwined with matter." Notley's writing and art responds to a broad spectrum of American culture. Among the numerous collections of verse that Notley has published are Incidental in the …
