About this Collection

Album contains snapshots and portraits of Gertrude Stein, Stein family members Leo, Michael, Sarah and Allan; Alice B. Toklas; Harriet Levy; and Annette Rosenshine. Photographs were taken in San Francisco, Baltimore, Paris, and Fiesole, Italy. Interiors of Stein's apartment, (Rue Madame, Paris) and her art collection of works of Picasso and Matisse are prominent. Includes two portraits of Alice B. Toklas by Arnold Genthe. Also includes some later clippings about the death of Matisse. Loose photographs include three captioned "Hot Springs 1903" and many taken in Luxembourg Gardens which show Annette Rosenshine and Alice B. Toklas. View collection guide.
