The San Francisco Bay Area Earthquake of 1868 collection contains eleven cartes de visite and two stereographs taken in 1868 by various photographers. The collection documents the damage exacted by the Hayward earthquake of October 21, 1868, estimated to have had a Richter scale magnitude of seven. Hayward structures pictured in the collection include the Edminton Grain Warehouse, the Morse and Heslep Flour Mill, and the San Leandro Courthouse.
