About this Collection

The Pitzer College Art Collection is dedicated to established and emerging artists and comprises an eclectic group of works— paintings, sculpture, ceramics, prints, and photographs—assembled over the forty-five years since Pitzer College first opened its doors.

Including seminal works by Karl Benjamin, David Furman, Carl Hertel, Susan Hertel, James Turrell, and Michael Woodcock, the collection has grown to include a number of significant photo-based and graphic works. These include a suite of Aaron Siskind's silver gelatin photographs gifted by Joe D'Angerio, Nancy Foy and Family, as well as several Henry Moore lithographs generously donated by Allan Lenzner. In addition to a recent graphic work by Richard Serra, protesting the horrors of Abu Ghraib, a number of exceptional contemporary works by Sandeep Mukherjee, Anne Noble, Connie Samaras, and David H. Wells have been added to the collection.

The Pitzer College Art Collection is committed to expanding its presence on the campus and within the art community at large by providing exceptional examples of historic and contemporary works that reflect Pitzer College's commitment to its core values of social responsibility and intercultural learning.
