About this Collection
The Al-Salih Tala'i mosque's wooden minbar, dating back to 1299 AD, is the second oldest Mamluk minbar in Cairo. It underwent various restorations, including dismantling and reconstruction in 1898/99 A.D., as well as repainting in the 1980s. In 1995, Dr. Jaroslaw Dobrowolski and Dr. Agnieszka Dobrowolska photographically recorded the Minbar's condition, and in 1997, Dr. Ewa Parandowska produced a thorough report detailing the Minbar's current state of preservation. The report also suggested repair and conservation measures. Between 1998 and 1999, Dr. Agnieszka Dobrowolska and her team performed specialized conservation, including reinforcement, base construction, decoration cleaning, dome restoration, and Qibla wall renovation.
