The Escondido Public Library celebrates Library Lover’s Month with events and programs highlighting the EPL’s collections. This year, the Main Library will host a lecture and walking tour with John Archer. To complement these events, the Pioneer Room brings you Love Your Library 2023: Escondido’s Historic Places.Dive deeper into Escondido’s past by exploring six of its historic places and the people that enjoyed them.

Created during Love Your Library Month 2023, this 0.5-mile, 15 minute tour begins at the Pioneer Room local history archives and ends at the Escondido Public Library mural and pocket park.
Featuring fun facts and stories about 7 of Escondido's historic places, you'll learn more about Escondido's pioneering families, businesses, and organizations from the 1887 Thomas Turrentine
House, through the present day.
The historic places along the tour are privately-owned. We ask that you please refrain from stepping onto private property unless invited. Photography is allowed from public spaces, but please ask permission before photographing people on private property.
The Ryan Photo Collection: Frances Beven Ryan (1902-1990) was one of Escondido’s best-known historians and nature preservationists. Known as “the Acorn Lady” for her work to reestablish Engelmann oaks, she was often described as commanding and even cranky. Ryan was dedicated to preserving Escondido history for future generations, and the Pioneer Room is her enduring legacy.
The Ryan Collection of over 2,000 photographs, books, maps, and furnishings is one of the Pioneer Room's earliest collections. View this collection on the contributor's website.
