California Indian Baskets
The UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History's collection includes baskets made by California American Indians in the 19th and early 20th century. The baskets represent works from the Panamint Shoshone (Timbisha Shoshone Tribe), a western division of the Shoshonean peoples, located east of the Sierra Divide in Central California; the Pomo Indians located on the Northern coast of California; the Shasta Indians located on the Oregon border of California; and the Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk tribes in Northwestern California.

California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, Proceedings and Publications
The California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, was founded in 1901 as the California State Federation of Labor. It was the most important successor to several earlier labor organizations, such as the Federated Trades Council of San Francisco, and the Knights of Labor in Los Angeles. The state federation played an early role in coordinating labor union activities throughout the state. The digital collection provides access to 100 years of proceedings of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, selected documents related to the Congress of Industrial Organizations and its merger with the Federation, and legislative voting records. California lettersheet collection
The collection consists of California lettersheets, mostly pictorial, created approximately between the years 1850 and 1870, with the bulk dating from the 1850s. Pictorial lettersheets are illustrated with lithographs or wood engravings depicting California and Western themes. Intended to be used as stationery during and after the California Gold Rush, these lettersheets served as a kind of reportage, depicting important events and popular stories of the day. Common illustrated topics and scenes include: murders and executions; the San Francisco Vigilance Committee; natural disasters, especially fires (San Francisco) and floods (Sacramento); the Gold Rush; mining life (from perspectives sentimental, cautionary, and …

The 53 pictorial lettersheets in this collection date from 1849 to ca. 1870. Many of the lettersheets lack dates, but were likely produced within the above period. A variety of places, events, and topics are depicted. City and landscapes and mining scenes predominate. Also included are events of the day (fires, earthquakes, etc.). Places featured include San Francisco, Marysville, Sacramento, Calaveras County, and other northern California towns. The medium of the bulk of the illustrations are wood engravings or lithographs, featuring the work of the likes of Hutchings & Rosenfield, Barber & Baker, Britton & Rey, and others....
