First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles Collection
The First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles Collection currently consists of approximately 400 sermons given by Reverend Cecil “Chip” Murray. These recordings capture the evolution of Reverend Murray’s thinking during his time leading the church in addition to the messages he gave his congregation after pivotal moments in U.S. life, such as the acquittal of the LAPD officers captured on video beating Rodney King. These sermons, delivered with passion, great humor, and insights into the structural inequalities that led to events like the 1992 L.A. civil unrest, are a record of important events interpreted through the lens of …

Fiske (George), Views of Yosemite, ca. 1880-1890
The Views of Yosemite album contains 68 photographic prints taken by George Fiske, likely in the 1880s. The photographs are mainly of Yosemite Valley in the winter. Views include Black Spring, domes from Columbia Rock, Inspiration Point, El Capitan Bridge, and Grizzly Peak. The album also includes a photograph of a burro-drawn sled bearing an advertisement for Fiske's landscape photography business. Many of the photographs in the album are uncaptioned....

Flaherty Collection - Japanese Internment Records
On February 19, 1942 President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 providing broad powers for the War Department to create exclusion zones and to initiate an evacuation program for the Western Defense Command (WDC). Under the leadership of General John Dewitt of the WDC, the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA) were created in order to provide for the transition of voluntary evacuees, enemy aliens and United States citizens alike, from exclusion areas to other parts of the country. The failure of the voluntary evacuation plan led President Roosevelt to issue Executive Order 9102, which established …

Flat Panel Impact and Residual Strength Testing and Characterization by Ultrasonic and X-Ray Computed Tomography Non-Destructive Evaluation
This dataset describes a set of impact and residual compression strength tests and accompanying non-destructive evaluation (NDE) data. The data has three major divisions: impact testing, NDE collection, and residual strength testing. Impact testing data primarily consists of force-history impact curves, residual indentation measurements and some accompanying photos. Non-destructive data collected for this specimen include X-ray computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonic pulse-echo (UT) scanning. CT data is available as a .tif format. TIFF (.tif) format files are the CT database output as image slices provided in a stacked format. UT data is available as .stdd format, and .mat format. .stdd …

The Flood family was one of the earliest and most prominent African American families to settle in Oakland, California. The Flood Family Papers includes 18 photographs, Lydia Flood Jackson’s funeral program, and two letters written by Lydia Flood Jackson to Ruth Lasartemay.

Florence Merriam Bailey Papers, 1887-1940
Consists of field notes and journals, drafts of primarily unpublished books and articles, plus a small amount of correspondence to her father, Clinton Levi Merriam and other naturalists and ornithologists. The majority of the field notes and journals deal with the West but also cover areas in North Dakota, New York, Washington D.C., Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida and elsewhere. Of particular note are her notes on the Grand Canyon and writings about the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico and the Apache Indians of Arizona.
