J. D. Black Papers
The J.D. Black Papers document the legacy of Owens Valley life-long residents. These digitized selections richly illustrate aspects of the famed Water Wars between the City of Los Angeles and the people of that valley in the 1920s, the defining moment in the modern history of the valley. Of particular value are the records of the reparations organizations of Big Pine active during the Owens Valley Water Wars of the 1920s and the photographs documenting life in the mining towns of California's eastern Sierras and western Nevada.

J. Edward Hoffmeister Films
John Edward Hoffmeister (1899-1991) was a professor of geology at the University of Rochester from 1923 until 1964. His research focused on the development of coral reefs, based on field work he conducted in the Tongan and Fijian islands in the late 1920s and early 1930s and off the coast of Florida during the 1960s and 1970s. Hoffmeister recorded on 16mm film scenes of daily village life and panoramic views of the islands he visited. J. Robert Beyster Collection: Selections
Selections from the collection of Dr. J. Robert Beyster (1924-2014), a scientist and entrepreneur who was the founder, former chairman and CEO of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), an employee-owned San Diego research and development firm founded in 1969. The digital collection features scans of career and company highlights including awards, photographs, and recordings, as well as a small selection of SAIC business records and documentation of SAIC's sponsorship of the Sail America Foundation (SAF) and America's Cup.

Jack Benny Papers, 1930-1974
Benjamin Kubelsky (1894-1974), known professionally as Jack Benny, was born in Chicago. He began his career as a violinist and turned to comedy in 1918 and became a successful vaudeville performer, actor and radio personality. The digital collection consists of photographs of Benny with his violin.

Jack London Photographs and Negatives
Approximately 12,000 images, primarily taken by London himself between 1902 and 1916, document the poor in the City of London, the Russo-Japanese War, the aftermath of the San Francisco earthquake and fire, London’s 18-month cruise through the South Pacific, a shipboard journey around Cape Horn, the Mexican Revolution, and London’s ranch in California’s Sonoma Valley.

Jack Taylor Interviews
This collection gathers a series of interviews conducted by the late John P. “Jack” Taylor (1924-2014), featuring many of the “Movers and Shakers” of Sonoma County’s postwar world, as well as other friends and acquaintances. He ended up with well over 200 interviews, all of which are here for you to watch and hear.

Jacoby (Harold S.) Nisei Collection
The collection includes WRA reports and other printed materials, periodical articles both by Japanese Americans and by others, field notes, internment camp newspapers and highschool yearbooks, clippings, and ephemera relating to the Japanese-American relocation. It contains materials pertaining to nearly all of the ten internment camps, but is strongest in materials from Granada (Colorado) and from Tule Lake. Jaded was an alternative media magazine published by students at the University of California, Irvine, intended to encourage political, cultural, and social discourse among UCI students. It published 12 issues from 2004-2007.
