The Daily Sundial
This digital collection features print issues of the CSUN campus newspaper, the Daily Sundial, from its inception as part of Valley State College in 1957 through the current year. This is an exceptional source for understanding local and national history as experienced by the students of this academic institution.

The David Smollar Map Collection
The David Smollar Map Collection, donated to the San Diego Public Library’s Special Collection Center in the spring of 2020, consists of over 400 maps and related materials. The maps date from 1914 to 2018 and primarily cover the city and county of San Diego. This collection is a wonderful addition to the over 1,000 maps owned by the San Diego Public Library.

The Gridiron - California's Fighting Newspaper
In 1926, Andrae B. Nordskog began publishing The Gridiron, a Los Angeles weekly paper that promoted public utility reform. In 1927, he became actively involved in the Los Angeles-Owens Valley water controversy and began to publish articles and editorials which championed the Owens Valley’s cause and criticized the City of Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power, and other prominent local businessmen for using Owens Valley water to cheat Californians out of millions of dollars in San Fernando Valley property deals. Nordskog’s research has significantly influenced the way historians have viewed the Owens Valley controversy.

Since 1997, The Interviews: An Oral History of Television has recorded over 900 one-on-one conversations with individuals who have made a significant impact on television – both in front of and behind the camera. The interviews are conducted in a life-history format, starting with the subject's early years and influences. The conversation then moves into their major television work, and concludes with the subject's thoughts about his or her craft, as well as advice to aspiring professionals. The Joseph Murphy Baseball Autograph Collection
The Joseph Murphy Baseball Autograph Collection is a 10-volume private scrapbook collection of baseball-related materials accumulated primarily in the 1930s with some additions thereafter; authentic autographs, correspondence, stat sheets, and biographical clippings. There are over 1,200 items in the collection including autographs of Baseball Hall of Fame members such as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, and Honus Wagner. Joe Murphy started his Collection in 1931. After that year’s World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Athletics, nine-year-old Joe and his seven-year-old brother, John, sent a congratulatory letter to Pepper Martin on his World Series record of …

The Merced Assembly Center Documentary Interviews
The interviews in this collection were conducted during the production of the documentary The Merced Assembly Center: Injustice Immortalized. The individuals featured in these interviews provide a range of insights into the history of farming by both Issei and Nisei in the Central Valley, and detail the struggles that they and their families faced in the aftermath of the signing of Executive Order 9066, which spurred the internment of those of Japanese descent along the western coast of the United States in 1942.

The Minerva Club Yearbooks, 1906 - 1947
The Minerva Club was founded in Santa Maria in 1894 as the Ladies Literary Society. In the late nineteenth century, the Santa Maria Valley was sparsely populated and largely undeveloped, leaving many of the area’s women lonely and starved for entertainment. The club’s members came together to socialize and sponsor programs that would be entertaining and enlightening. They also established the first lending library in Santa Maria, and have been instrumental in supporting the public library ever since. The New City Hall, San Francisco, California, 1915
The New City Hall, San Francisco, California album contains 62 photographic prints taken in 1915 by John Channing. The album features the newly-constructed San Francisco City Hall, built to replace the previous structure which was destroyed in the earthquake and fire of 1906. Designed by architects John Bakewell, Jr. and Arthur Brown, Jr. (of Bakewell and Brown), and begun in 1913, the nearly complete City Hall as shown in the album was fully occupied by city officials in 1916.
