Vahdah Olcott-Bickford Correspondence (IGRA)
As founder of the American Guitar Society in 1923, Vahdah established a mission to promote the "classic" guitar through education, publications and new compositions for the instrument in an era when the guitar was gaining prominance within popular dance idioms. This collection traces her career as a classical guitarist, composer, teacher, author, publisher and astrologer, and demonstrates her reach of influence well beyond her Los Angeles home to include musicians, composers, publishers, teachers and students from around the globe.

Venegas Family Papers
The Venegas Family Papers extensively document the history of Dolores (1900-1991) and Miguel Venegas (1897-1994) and their family. Originally from Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, Mexico, Dolores (“Lola”) and Miguel immigrated to Los Angeles in 1927 as refugees from the Cristero Rebellion. The family’s detailed correspondence between members settled in L.A. and those remaining in Mexico shed significant light on their immigration experience. Items in the digital collection contain correspondence, documents, and photographs.

Vermilion Family Correspondence
The collection consists of Vermilion family letters exchanged primarily between William F. Vermilion and his wife, Mary, during the American Civil War. William F. Vermilion was a physician, Civil War company commander in the Union Army, Iowa state senator (1869-1873), and lawyer. He was commissioned on October 4, 1862 to command Company F of the 36th Infantry Regiment of Iowa Volunteers, and continued that assignment until his discharge on August 24, 1865. After the Civil War, Vermilion was elected state senator (1869-1872) from Appanoose County to the Thirteenth General Assembly of Iowa. Letters from William exceed the letters from Mary …

Verne Thompson Inman Papers, ca. 1950-1979
Born in San Jose, CA, Dr.Inman received his B.A., an M.A. in Anatomy (1929), and M.D. (1932), and a Ph.D. in Anatomy (1934), all from the University of California. He did his internship at UC Hospital and SFGH, 1936-37. At various times he was a fellow in orthopedic surgery at SFGH (1939-40), instructor in anatomy, professor (from 1952) and chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, from 1957 to 1970. He was also Director of the Biomechanics Laboratory 1957-73, which he helped to establish after WWII to deal with the problems of amputees, and a Fulbright lecturer in 1964-65. Dr. …

Veronique Saunier's "Still Lives" Collection
"Still Lives," an exhibit of 70 paintings and drawings by 18 Vietnamese, explores the trials and slim joys of daily life in Hong Kong's detention camps, where boat people await word whether they will be given asylum or be forcibly returned to Vietnam. The show came together thanks largely to the efforts of Veronique Saunier, a French public relations consultant who spends time as a volunteer working in the refugee camps.
