Yamada (Mitsuye) Papers
The collection comprises the papers of Mitsuye Yamada, a Japanese American poet and political activist who, as a teenager, was interned at Minadoka Relocation Center in Idaho during World War II. Her papers document her career as a writer, teacher, and human rights spokesperson, including her involvement with Amnesty International and the struggle by Japanese Americans to redress their treatment during the war. The collection also includes copies of Department of Justice and FBI files about her father's arrest and imprisonment during the war, which Yamada obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

Yaqui Photograph Albums, ca 1908 - ca 1909
Photographs documenting conflicts in Northern Mexico, particularly of Yaqui people. Includes studio portraits as well as views of villages, Yaqui dancers, soldiers and prisoners of war, deportations to Yucatan, hangings and other executions, groups of children and adults, peace talks at Hermosillo, etc.

Yeomans (Pat) Collection on Bill Henry and the History of the Olympics

Yosemite Lumber Company, Merced Falls Photographs
The Yosemite Lumber Company, founded in 1911 by Bay Area investors F.M. Fenwick, James Tyson, and Charles Nelson, was created after Mr. Prather and Mr. Lehmer of the Yosemite Valley Railroad sought partners in freighting lumber along the new line between Mariposa and El Portal. The Yosemite Valley Railroad, completed in 1906, necessitated industrial and commercial use to generate profit and justify the existence of the line. In 1911, at the historic ford of Merced Falls, the most advanced lumber mill of its kind in the area began harvesting 10,000 acres of sugar pine trees in Yosemite Valley along the …

Consists of Uchida's correspondence, writings, and professional files, along with a small amount of personal and family papers, providing insight into the life of a successful and distinguished author, as well as her experiences as a Japanese-American growing up in Berkeley, Calif., and internment camps during the war years.
