The Whittier History Room is located on the mezzanine of the Central Library and is home to the Whittier Local History Collection. The purpose of this collection is to collect, preserve and make available to the public materials reflecting the development of the City of Whittier and surrounding areas. The main areas of collection are Whittier history, Whittier Hills and California history. The Whittier history collection includes archival materials, maps, Vertical Files, yearbooks, Whittier City Directories, local telephone books, Haines Directories, and titles by local authors.

California Revealed from Whittier Public Library
California Revealed is a State Library initiative to help California’s public libraries, in partnership with other local heritage groups, digitize, preserve, and provide online access to archival materials - books, newspapers, photographs, audiovisual recordings, and more - that tell the incredible stories of the Golden State. We also provide free access and preservation services for existing digital collections for partner organizations with in-house digitization programs. California Revealed is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Whittier Public Library Historical Photograph Collection
The Whittier Historical Photograph Collection includes images documenting the foundation of the community of Whittier, California during the periods of the late 1800s to the middle of the 20th century. The images in the Whittier Historical Photograph Collection depict not only historical buildings and portraits of early Whittier settlers; they also document the beginnings of the California citrus, oil, and transportation industries. Many of the images in this collection display the prosperous time of growth as seen in similar early California settlements.
