Pepperdine University Special Collections and University Archives collect, organize, preserve, and make available materials with enduring historic value that can be used to support research, teaching, administrative activities, and community involvement.The department consists of rare book collections, archival collections (including the University Archives), the Malibu Historical Collection, and the Churches of Christ Heritage Center.

Alan Reed Collection
Alan Reed was an American film, stage, and voice actor, best known as the original voice of Fred Flintstone on the show The Flintstones. The collection includes photographs of Reed assembled for his portfolio, correspondence from Fred Allen, newspaper clippings, short essays that Reed wrote, and business matters with the Screen Actors Guild.

Alumni Memories Collection
The Alumni Memories digital collection comprises photographs, memorabilia, documents, scrapbooks, correspondence, and other materials donated to Pepperdine University Libraries by alumni of George Pepperdine College and Pepperdine University. The items in this collection, arranged by theme or donor, strive to capture the “Pepperdine experience” while providing a glimpse into the lives of the men and women that call Pepperdine their alma mater.

Annette and Doris Anderson Family Photographs
The Anderson family lived in the Malibu Lakeside community in the Santa Monica Mountains from 1929 to 1976. This digital collection features photographs of the Anderson family cabin and the Malibu Lakeside community center, and scans of promotional and other materials related to community events. This collection also includes photographs and postcards from other prominent destinations in the Santa Monica Mountains, such as Malibou Lake, Lake Enchanto and the Seminole Hot Springs. Materials date from 1930 to 1967.

Anti-Communism Films of the Early 1960s
In the early 1960s at the height of the Cold War, Pepperdine College sponsored a four-part, Hollywood-produced film series titled Crisis for Americans. Utilizing newsreel footage and scripted narration, each film sought to expose the threat of Soviet-based communism to capitalism and free societies around the globe. In turn, the films describe how communism preys on susceptible youth (Communist Accent on Youth, 1961), spreads through violent aggression (Communist Imperialism, 1962), and cloaks itself behind the discourse of “peaceful coexistence” (Communism and Coexistence, 1963). The Artist at Work by Leigh Weiner
During his 50-year career as a photographer and photojournalist, Leigh Wiener photographed every U.S. president from Truman to Reagan, Hollywood legends from Marilyn to Marlon, musicians from Miles to Sinatra, poets, scientists, playwrights and industry titans. Born in 1929, Wiener grew up in New York City, where his father worked as a newspaper man. Arthur “Wegee” Felig, a family friend who worked as a freelance news photographer, first taught Wiener to look at pictures. By 15, he had sold a photo to Collier’s. Associated Women for Pepperdine Collection
This collection of photographs documents the history of the Associated Women for Pepperdine (AWP). AWP was started in 1958 by Helen Young and a group of women united in their belief of the importance of Christian education. AWP members conduct fundraising events such as dinners, auctions, and bake sales each year in order to provide students with scholarships to attend Pepperdine University. In 2018, AWP changed their name to Pepperdine Legacy Partners (PLP).

Bruce Herschensohn Collection
The Bruce Herschensohn Collection features the personal papers of this important politician, scholar, and filmmaker, including his notes, correspondence, media clippings, and other ephemera. The collection documents his professional life, particularly with the U.S. Information Agency during the 1960s, and also includes his documentary films. Mr. Herschensohn's long and varied career also includes roles in the Nixon and Reagan administrations, a political commentator for television and radio, and a senior fellow with Pepperdine University's School of Public Policy.

Chuck Waters Collection
Chuck Waters, veteran Hollywood stuntman, shares his photographs, correspondence, and stories chronicling more than forty years in the film industry. Waters (b. 1934) has served as stunt performer or stunt coordinator on over 130 films, including The Deer Hunter, The Exorcist, the Indiana Jones trilogy, and several films by Clint Eastwood.

Eric Wienberg Collection of Malibu Matchbooks, Postcards, and Collectables
The Eric Wienberg Collection of Malibu Matchbooks, Postcards, and Collectables chronicles the history of business establishments and sites in Malibu and the surrounding area. The collection covers a period between the late 19th century and the 1980s, and features matchbook covers, postcards, publications, and ephemera from restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, motels, stores, and other businesses from Malibu, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Culver City, and Venice Beach. The collection also includes publicity photographs, photojournalistic images, and candid snapshots from life in Malibu and Southern California. All materials were collected and donated by former Malibu resident Eric Wienberg.
