The Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections & Archives is the principle repository for the preservation and access of the rare and unique collections at Chapman University’s Leatherby Libraries. Special Collections holds rare books, manuscripts, maps and collections of enduring value while the Archives preserves the history of the university and the Chapman family. The Library was named by the late Trustee C. Stanley Chapman, Jr., and his wife, Joan Mt. Pleasant Chapman in honor of Joan’s uncle, Frank Mt. Pleasant, a Tuscarora Indian.

Chapman University, Los Angeles Years

Charles C. Chapman Citrus Speeches
Charles Clarke Chapman, 1853-1944, namesake and founding father of Chapman University, was an entrepreneur who is credited for popularizing the Valencia orange and for branding the orange crate boxes with attractive labels. As Mr. Chapman became knowlegeable about the citrus industry by learning from other growers and by his experience, he began giving speeches on the topic to citrus grower conventions, to farmer clubs, high schools, and Y.M.C.A.'s among other venues. This collection covers every aspect of citrus production, from the soil composition, fertilizing, pests and diseases, irrigation, care and handling, shipping, and marketing.
