The Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections & Archives is the principle repository for the preservation and access of the rare and unique collections at Chapman University’s Leatherby Libraries. Special Collections holds rare books, manuscripts, maps and collections of enduring value while the Archives preserves the history of the university and the Chapman family. The Library was named by the late Trustee C. Stanley Chapman, Jr., and his wife, Joan Mt. Pleasant Chapman in honor of Joan’s uncle, Frank Mt. Pleasant, a Tuscarora Indian.

Charles C. Chapman College Lectures
Charles C. Chapman, besides being the largest single donor during the early years of Chapman University, was also the first president of the Board of Trustees. As a popular public speaker and a devout Disciple, he spoke at many of the early college functions. This collection contains those speeches.

Charles C. Chapman Masonic Speeches
Charles C. Chapman, like many business men of his generation, belonged to a number of fraternal organizations one was these was the Freemasons. This collection consists of the many speeches and talks that he gave over the course of his membership to various Masonic organizations including the Masonic Lodge in Fullerton, CA.

Emmett Ashford Collection
Emmett Ashford impacted the world of baseball in a variety of ways. His major influence was as the first black umpire in organized baseball. He spent 15 years as an umpire in the minor leagues prior to his stylish and groundbreaking entry into the major leagues which culminated in his officiating in the 1970 world series. In this milieu he was a pioneer in training umpires on the national and international level. Upon retirement he worked for then major league baseball commissioner, Bowie Kuhn. Esmeralda Tree-Cat; The Lonely Bear
The book contains two interconnected stories. One story reads front to back; the book is then turned upside-down and the second story is then read front to back. One story is of Esmeralda, a girl who escapes from an oppressive Catholic school, is eaten by a Jaguar, and is reborn as "a jaguar girl with many powers." The other story is of a bear haunted by his own loneliness and by his dreams of a being who sometimes manifests as a spotted kitten and at other times as a small girl.
