The Special Collections Research Center at California State University, Fresno is composed of several specialized book collections, manuscript collections, the University Archives and the Central Valley Political Archive.
Anyone is welcome to use our collections but all materials must be viewed in the Woodward Family Reading Room. A picture I.D. is required while you are doing research. Photocopying is done by our staff. Special Collections is open by appointment between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Topolobampo Collection
The Topolobampo digitized collection consists of photographs taken by colonist and official photographer for the Credit Foncier Company of Sinaloa, Ira Kneeland. The photographs document the area around Topolobampo bay during the late 19th century, focusing on the efforts of Albert Kimsey Owen and others to establish a socialist utopian colony. The Topolobampo cooperative colony was founded at Topolobampo Bay near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, by a group of American colonists in 1886. The colony was established and governed under a set of idealistic bylaws, predicated on socialistic reforms. The driving force behind the colonization effort was Albert Kimsey Owen …

Woodward Family Collection
Oscar James Woodward was born in Clinton, Illinois to Jesse and Isabel Woodward in 1849. After his father died during his last year of high school O.J. began working for and later formed a partnership in a shoe sales business with Jacob Vogel. Woodward met and married Vogel's cousin Anna Rudolf in 1875. Anna gave birth to sons Roy and Ralph in 1878 and 1881, respectively. The Woodwards moved to Arizona in 1883 and purchased a cattle ranch which they sold shortly afterward for a considerable profit. During this time a third child, Abbie, was born. Worlds Fair Collection
The Donald G. Larson Collection on International Expositions and Fairs is the largest comprehensive world's fair research collection on the West Coast. The collection contains more than 16,000 official guides, pamphlets, postcards, photographs, sheet music, and other materials from over 200 different fairs from 1851 to the present. The nucleus of the collection was donated in the 1970s by Donald G. Larson, an avid collector and local college instructor. Since then, the collection has grown significantly and continues to expand every year.
