The San Joaquin County Historical Society preserves and interprets the county's history.
The Historical Society provides educational experiences that showcase the county's traditions of ingenuity, innovation, and invention -- with emphasis on San Joaquin county's singular contributions in agriculture -- to promote community pride, continued learning, and an appreciation of regional history among county residents and visitors.
The San Joaquin County Historical Society accomplishes its mission on behalf of the County of San Joaquin by:
• Preserving historic buildings, documents, and objects;
• Operating the San Joaquin County Historical Museum;
• Presenting exhibits and programs; and
• Developing and disseminating publications and media.

California Revealed from San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum
California Revealed is a State Library initiative to help California’s public libraries, in partnership with other local heritage groups, digitize, preserve, and provide online access to archival materials - books, newspapers, photographs, audiovisual recordings, and more - that tell the incredible stories of the Golden State. We also provide free access and preservation services for existing digital collections for partner organizations with in-house digitization programs. California Revealed is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

At the turn of the previous century, growing concern over the quality of life for rural Americans prompted President Theodore Roosevelt to appoint a Commission on Country Life in 1908. One of the direct outcomes of the Commission’s recommendations was the passage of the Smith-Lever Act in 1914, which established a national extension service to place the knowledge generated at land-grant universities into the hands of farmers and rural citizens. The Agricultural Extension Service formalized and built upon existing efforts of land-grant universities to enhance the knowledge of farmers and apply scientific discoveries for improved agricultural practices.
