Founded in 1972, the Orange County Regional History Collection continues to expand in breadth and depth. It documents the cultural, social, political, religious, economic, racial, and environmental history of Orange County from the mission period through the present.
Our goal is to surface the historical records and cultural heritage of Orange County for research, even materials not held by the UCI Libraries. We are actively engaged in and seeking ongoing non-custodial, equitable partnerships to ensure sustained preservation and access to the histories of the region, especially related to social justice and communities under-documented in the historical record.

Orange County Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Timeline Research Files
This collection consists of newspaper clippings, publications, and ephemera about Orange County, California's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.The materials were collected by multiple individuals as part of the Orange County Historical Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Timeline Project, an effort started by activist Barbara Muirhead in 1995. Activists Dick Hitt and Brad Brafford also contributed significantly to the Project. The Project highlights important people, organizations, and events related to the LGBT communities in Orange County. Orange County Rancho Title Abstracts, Collection of
This collection comprises 3 bound, handwritten title abstracts, prepared by the Abstract and Title Insurance Company of Los Angeles, containing transcriptions of documents, dating back as early as 1868. The transcriptions are from original documents such as deeds, leases, tax assessments, and court cases with accompanying hand-drawn maps for properties that were part of Rancho Boca de la Playa and Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana presently part of Orange County, California. The fourth document is an unbound typescript copy of an 1887 title abstract for a property formerly known as the Colima Tract on the Rancho Santa Gertrudis, and was …

Pleasants Family Papers
This collection comprises the personal papers of J.E. Pleasants and his first and second wives, Mary Refugio Carpenter Pleasants and Adelina Pleasants, and includes diaries, correspondence, manuscripts, negatives, and photographic prints. J.E. Pleasants' long association with the Santa Ana Mountains and Santiago Canyon, cattle ranching, and beekeeping are all documented. The diaries and correspondence of Mary Refugio Carpenter Pleasants provide a glimpse into life in Southern California in the 1860s. Adelina Pleasants' work as a writer of Southern California and Orange County history in the early 20th century is also represented. The collection contains some tintypes, cabinet cards, and a …

Watson (Raymond L.) papers
Raymond L. Watson (1926-2012) was an architect and planner and former President and CEO of The Irvine Company. Included in this collection are electronic word-processing files, created between 1992 and 2010, and digitized slides, created in 1996 and 1997. The born digital files were received via email and converted to PDF format in order to facilitate preservation and access. The digitized slides were received on five photographic CDs and were converted into JPEGs, also to facilitate preservation and access. Women's March on Washington Orange County collection
This collection contains digital oral histories in .wav and .mp3 formats recorded at the Women's March on Washington, Orange County on January 21, 2017. Also included are consent forms, question prompts, and related ephemera. The oral histories were recorded as part of the affiliated Women's March on Washington Archives Project and copies will be deposited with an as-yet-unknown repository at the national level. Accruals are expected.

Yamada (Mitsuye) Papers
The collection comprises the papers of Mitsuye Yamada, a Japanese American poet and political activist who, as a teenager, was interned at Minadoka Relocation Center in Idaho during World War II. Her papers document her career as a writer, teacher, and human rights spokesperson, including her involvement with Amnesty International and the struggle by Japanese Americans to redress their treatment during the war. The collection also includes copies of Department of Justice and FBI files about her father's arrest and imprisonment during the war, which Yamada obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
