The Chula Vista Public Library has an archive of the Star-News, a local paper based in the South Bay area of San Diego County. The microfilm collection begins in 1930 and stretches to 2008. The library has physical copies of the newspaper from 1931 to 2008, and again from 2011 to today. Chula Vista History in Pictures is the library's digitized collection of engaging images depicting our local history.

Chula Vista Public Library's John Rojas Photograph Collection includes images of historical interest of Chula Vista and other areas of San Diego County from the late 1880's to 1976. Images document commercial, residential and public buildings, including businesses and restaurants (notably downtown Third Avenue), the fire department, theaters (such as the Seville and Vogue), schools and the public library; street scenes; neighborhoods; significant individuals including Greg Rogers and the Peters family; groups and family portraits; and annual events, such as the Fiesta de la Luna.
