Arlene Mae Lochridge spent much of her teenage years living in The Thing, a WWII troop transporter her father retrofitted into a mobile home. This collection of photographs, an autobiography, and a magazine article detail Lochridge’s life from 1937-2015.

The Arlene Shuster collection contains one Grape Day Festival booklet, one Felicita Pageant program, six Kiwanis Club membership rosters, four Kiwanis Varieties programs, and an Installation of Officers program. This collection also has ten photographs of the Knappe family, four photographs of the 1928 Felicita Pageant costumes, and 21 photographs of various Escondido Kiwanis Club events, including a banquet, the 1960 variety stage show, and a photo of the 1951 soap box derby. Some materials in the collection may contain harmful content, and some items are restricted due to condition.

This exhibition features 13 works spanning 45 years, showcasing Lewis Carleton Ryan’s artistic versatility. From rural landscapes to vivid sketches of everyday life captured during his travels across more than 5,500 miles, these pieces offer a glimpse of the world through the eyes of an Escondido artist with a global perspective. Maximino "Max" Limón Atilano (8 June 1900 - 2 December 1992) brought music to Escondido, California. He worked as a foreman for the Escondido Citrus Union and gathered members of his picking crew into a band. Atilano played a 1732 Stratevaria violin and was a fixture at Grape Days. Atilano was a devout Catholic who purchased a bell for St. Mary's Church, installed in 1929. Atilano celebrated and uplifted the Mexican-American community, hosting Mexican Independence Day and Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Escondido. He was proud of his American citizenship, received on Thanksgiving Day, 1947. Atilano moved from San Juan …

Camp Sunkist was built in 1942 by the Escondido Lemon Association to house migrant workers. It contained 42 one-room bungalows once located where the Escondido Transit Center now resides. The photographs were taken in April and May of 1987 by Manuel Ceniceros, a photographer for the Times-Advocate newspaper. Many of the photos in this exhibit were featured in articles published by the newspaper. The Eloise Perkins Collection holds approximately 2,000 photos, with 200 currently digitized. Perkins (1921-1989) was a staff writer for the Times-Advocate from 1949 until 1981. She wrote local interest stories centering on Escondido, CA and the surrounding environs. The photos in this collection reflect her research into local historical places and people, nearby historical or environmental regions, and important events and places.

This collection consists of records and files of Jaycee President Ron Bowman during the calendar years 1969-1970 (minutes of all meetings along with the activities of the Escondido Jaycees during the years of 1969-1970). The collection further contains the records, letters, newspaper articles, plans of action and results of the Jaycee efforts for these years. Photo collection of contestants in the Junior Miss Pageant along with photos taken during the above years have been separated into another collection. In addition, there are a few items extending as late as 1978.

The Escondido Union School District (EUSD) Nutrition Sesrvices provides meals for students attending Escondido area schools. The recipe cards in this collection were used in school cafeterias until 2000. Schools represented include: Del Dios, Fallbrook, Grant, and Rincon. The recipes in this collection were intended to feed crowds of school children. Serving sizes are often 100+ servings!
