The Big Pine Citizen was the weekly newspaper of Big Pine, California, a town in the northern Owens Valley of the California Sierras. The Big Pine Citizen Newspaper Collection holds issues from the years 1922, and 1924 to 1928, the decade in which the Owens Valley Water Wars between the City of Los Angeles and the people of the Owens Valley over the control of land and corresponding water rights was at its height. Thus, the newspapers contain much information, from the viewpoint of Owens Valley residents, on Los Angeles' control of the Owens Valley water supply.

Catholicism in Los Angeles offers a unique look into Los Angeles history and its rich Roman Catholic roots. Focusing on the themes of education and social justice, and include texts and photographs related to reformers and reform movements, and influential early families. Materials from the Workman Family Papers and the Dockweiler Family Papers were digitized, including those detailing the life of social activist Mary Julia Workman and her contributions to education in Los Angeles. The Dockweiler family is a Roman Catholic family long distinguished in Los Angeles civic, legal, and social life.

The Changing Face of Southern California Collection feature selections from the Werner von Boltenstern Postcard Collection and other postcard collections of the Department of Archives and Special Collections. The Del Rey Players Collection features playbills from Loyola University’s student dramatic society founded in autumn of 1932. Throughout the following decades, the student run organization would stage plays in renowned Los Angeles performance venues including the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, and Carthay Circle Theatre. In 1971, the Players transformed a classroom into the Wine Cellar Theater, which became their home. The Del Rey Players continue to stage productions to this day, making them the second oldest continual student organizations on the Loyola Marymount campus. The Dockweiler Family Papers document the Dockweiler family, which held a distinguished place in nineteenth and twentieth-century Los Angeles. Family members influenced city, state, and national politics, and were noted personages of Los Angeles society. The career of Isidore B. Dockweiler (1867-1947), the patriarch of the family, in law and national politics best exemplifies this influence. These images found in this digital collection document the significance of both the Dockweilers’ public and private lives.

The Early Manuscript and Printed Book Leaves Collection showcases a variety of leaves from the Otto Ege portfolios and the Bruce Ferrini Liturgical Manuscript Leaf Collection.

The Holiday Postcards collection presents selected greeting postcards from the Loyola Marymount University postcard collections. It showcases postcards of significant holidays, such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year, as well as birthday, humor, and special occasions. More images will be added to this digital collection in the future.

The Hurley-Wright Surveyors Map Collection contains surveyors' field books, plat maps and other maps from Southern California counties, spanning the years from 1855 to 1968. The collection has very high research and historical value as the holdings contain maps recording the ownership of Californio ranchos from 1858 on and their subsequent divisions and development; old downtown Los Angeles; and creations of counties in Southern California. Of particular interest for the history of water in Los Angeles, maps, directly and indirectly, address the infrastructure of water.

The J.D. Black Papers document the legacy of Owens Valley life-long residents. These digitized selections richly illustrate aspects of the famed Water Wars between the City of Los Angeles and the people of that valley in the 1920s, the defining moment in the modern history of the valley. Of particular value are the records of the reparations organizations of Big Pine active during the Owens Valley Water Wars of the 1920s and the photographs documenting life in the mining towns of California's eastern Sierras and western Nevada.
