RSA journal featuring Charles Handy's inaugural address of the 234th session. Handy's discourse concerns three areas of particular interest, namely, change, learning, and the RSA. He proceeds to discuss how the idea of change has altered. Where once change meant more of the same thing, incrementally positive, Handy recognizes that change is now often, and should be, discontinuous, and how Britain is now in a period of discontinuous change. Handy then connects learning to discontinuous change, stressing how it requires that one learn to be inquisitive, asking questions, seeking possible answers, and testing possibilities. He introduces the concept of the inverted doughnut, and how one should develop large doughnut thinking through challenging tasks and the assistance of mentors, before proceeding to talk about the RSA's role in meeting contemporary discontinuities in Britain.
