Photograph caption dated December 17, 1953 reads, "Valley ratpack victim - James Kidd, 19, of Van Nuys, beaten and kicked by a gang of hoodlums, is questioned by Officer R. O. Salo and Det. Lou Bennett at Valley Receiving Hospital. Kidd suffered severe head and face injuries."
