Description
Frances Gomes and Manuel Mendonca (husband and wife). Parents of George Mendoza; grandparents of Yvonne Mendoza; great-grandparents of Greg Smestad. George changed the name to Mendoza. They were originally from Portugal, but settled in Milpitas (later, Mountain View) and owned a ranch near McCarthy Ranch and near Ft. Wayne Station. Manuel P. Mendoza was listed in the San Jose Directories in Mountain View. Velma writes, "Manuel P. and wife Francis Mendonca, born in Portugal. Buried in Catholic Santa Clara Cemetery. Francis Gomes Mendonca died age 56 years, Manuel Perry Mendonca died 86 years old. Married in Honolulu, Island of Oahu, 31, Jan. 1880."
