A crowd of 5,000 gathered to hear Kennedy. The creative workshop rose from the ashes of the 1965 Watts Riots, and the group cheered loudly when the New York Senator proclaimed he wanted "violence and hatred replaced by jobs. I want bitterness replaced in this county." Senator Mervyn Dymally is among the men on stage.
