Description
Photograph taken in 1952 at the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, Kentucky. In 1955, 26 brothers from the Abbey of Gethsemani came to Vina, Tehama County, California to found the Abbey of New Clairvaux. These lay brother novices were in early traning and had not yet made public vows. They spent 8 hours a day in manual labor. They lived a life different from the choir religious, wore brown habit, but formed one community with the choir religious. Note by Father Paul Mark Schwan.
