This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Bear Pit Woodward's Garden 1881- Sunday afternoon crowd feding [sic] bears peanuts." View is of a circular pit containing raised wooden platforms. A bear is occupying the tallest platform, a couple of others can be seen lower down. A crowd is gathered around the pit; one bear seems to be awaiting his peanuts. A large pavilion building is off to the left. Numerous smaller structures can be seen in the background, one of which is under construction.
