Photograph caption dated April 16, 1963 reads "Tom Johnston, left, 13-year-old resident of Green Valley in the west Antelope Valley, receives a Los Angeles County Award of Merit from Warren M. Dorn, chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, for saving the life of Bob Pritchett, 14, right. Johnston stopped a tractor before it pulled heavy discs over Prichett (sic), who had been thrown in its path. Both boys were staying at a San Franscisquito Canyon ranch last month when the incident occured. 'Any boy who can think and act like that in an emergency needn't worry about his future,' Dorn said."
