Photograph caption dated January 15, 1963 reads, "Pace car - Seated in the Mercury S-55 convertible, famed race driver Peter De Paolo discusses plans for the Jan. 20 Riverside '500' stock car road race with Les Richter, promotion director of the Riverside Raceway. De Paolo will pilot the official mercury pace car on the initial lap of the 500-mile event. The pace car and an award car are provided through the courtesy of the Los Angeles Lincoln-Mercury Dealers Advertising Association."
