This an edited transcript of an oral history interview of Dale Gordon conducted by Volker Janssen. Topics discussed in this oral history include: industry standards committees; shift from manual to CNC machining; and manufacturing workforce demographics. Dale Gordon was an engineer at Aerofit, a manufacturer of hydraulic fittings for aircraft, for over thirty years, starting in 1978. He was born on December 16, 1955, in Lynwood, California, and he was raised in Norwalk. After high school he attended Cal State Polytechnic for a year and then served in the Air Force. Upon discharge in 1976 he studied at Cal State Fullerton, majoring in mechanical engineering. In 1978 he began working at Aerofit through a co-op program while still in school, and upon graduating the next year he took a full-time job as a standards engineer. He worked at Aerofit until 2003, when the firm underwent a change of ownership and he took a job with Airdrome in Long Beach; at that time he also obtained an MBA from Cal State Long Beach. In 2005 he returned to Aerofit as engineering manager and at the time of the interview in 2010 he was still working there.
