Description

Photograph caption dated August 13, 1963 reads, "Konichiwa means 'how do you do' in Japanese and on hand to say just that Monday was Nancy Hanke, 16, Granada Hills senior, who first met the man she is bowing to during a visit to Japan. He's Kiyoshi Sugito, mayor of Nagoya, who's visiting Los Angeles. Nagoya and Los Angeles are sister cities, and when Nancy visited Nagoya not long ago with three other high school students from Southern California, the two met. Yesterday they met again and Bruce Schurr, principal, and Mary Tinglof, member of the Los Angeles Board of Education, looked on as the mayor toured Nancy's school in Granada Hills. The community of Granada Hills will host the mayor at a welcoming dinner at the Knollweed Country Club at 7:30 p.m. Saturday."
