Description
Annotation translation: "The peoples of the Grassfields worship an invisible deity, Ndemsi, who lives in the earth. They build grass-roofed huts for this deity, in which they make offerings of food and drink. The peoples of the Grassfields also practice ancestor worship." "Vollbehr art postcards 'Cameroon'. " "Sales exclusively from the Basel Mission Bookshop, Duala, Cameroon." "House for the deity in a grove of the dead. Important people are not buried in the earth but bound to trees in a sitting position." [Handwritten note on the rear of the card].
Annotation: "Die Graslandneger verehren eine unsichtbare, in der Erde wohnende Gottheit, Ndemsi genannt. Dieser bauen sie Grashütten, in denen sie Speise- und Trankopfer darbringen. Ausser der Ndemsianbetung üben die Grasländer einen Ahnenkult." - "Vollbehr-Künstlerpostkarten 'Kamerun'." - "Alleinvertrieb: Basler Missionshandlung, Duala (Kamerun)." - "Götterhaus im Totenhain. Die grossen Toten werden nicht in der Erde bestattet, sondern an oder auf Bäumen in hockender Haltung festgebunden. [Handschrift auf der Kartenrückseite]." (MS 03.1998).
