Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 Aileen Eaton with (from left) Carlos Palomino, Danny "Little Red" Lopez, and Richie Sandoval. In the early 1940s, the Los Angeles Athletic Club sent Eaton to figure out why the Olympic Auditorium was unprofitable. Her solution: hire Cal Eaton as the promoter. Six years later, after the two had married, Aileen took on management chores and, with help from matchmakers Babe McCoy, George Parnassus, Mickey Davies, and Don Chargin, instituted Tuesday Night Fights and promoted the likes of Jimmy Carter, Archie Moore, and Mando Ramos. "I have never met a boxer who was a cad," she once said, "but I've met plenty of stockbrokers who were." She died in 1987. Photo dated: July 24, 1977.
