Full-length portrait.
Peter Hardeman Burnett was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1820, self educated lawyer. In 1843 moved to Oregon where took up farming, became active in politics. In 1848 moved to California, worked for John Sutter; elected governor in 1849; served briefly on California Supreme Court; president of Pacific Bank of San Francisco. Died in 1903.
