Description
Photograph of a panorama of Long Beach, showing the beach, pier, and ocean, ca.1912. The left and center fore- and middlegrounds are filled with men, women, and children, dressed predominantly in suits and bowler hats or dresses and sunhats. The beachgoers sit and stand amidst striped sand chairs and umbrellas. The ocean occupies the right middleground, while the pier stretches horizontally from the left background to the center background. A small clapboard structure with a turret protruding from its shingled roof sits amidst the crowd in the left middleground, offering "[Ta]ckle For Rent". A Second Empire-style building occupies the leftmost background. The left and center backgrounds show the distant "Hotel Eastman", as well as the three-story building that sits at the leftmost end of the pier, bearing a tall sign that reads "Welcome".
