Description
This circa 1930 photograph of the 14-story California Western State Life Insurance Building, also known as the Cal-West Building, was taken from across a shaded Plaza Park from the east side of 10th Street in the 1920s. It was the tallest building in Sacramento when completed in 1925 at 216 feet, but was beaten out by the Elks Building a year later when it went 10 feet higher. Notable features of the building include Gladding-McBean tiling and its French Chateauesque peak.
