Title

Description
The Polio girl, C' hen Li-ping's story – told by Birgit Norholdt: Gerda Bech found her laying on her belly, on a board with wheels enabling her to move forward. The father left her mother when she delivered a disabled child. The mother earned her living by washing people's clothes. And Li-ping was begging at the temple area. Gerda Bech provided operation followed by stay in a home for Polio children, at Hualien on the East coast. According to my knowledge, it was run by German Deaconess Sisters. - Back in Changua, I met Li-ping together with Gerda Bech, and after her retirement, I continued having contact to Li-ping. After having a 3-wheel motorbike she was able to move around on her own. I was invited to her wedding party for about 20 guests. Li-ping's husband was able to earn their living by repair of watches and cutting name plates. A Canadian Missionary, Margaret Roberts, assisted Li-ping after having kids, two lovely girls. Margaret prepared the baby food and quite often she took care of the kids. Later Li-ping's husband left her for another woman, and in 1988 she moved in with her mother at Banchyan.
