No building exceeds two stories in this scene, where a church to the left and the residential area of the city are visible beyond the commercial shops that line the street to either side in the foreground. Horse-drawn railcar tracks are visible in the middle of the unpaved road. The two-story building to the right advertises "Furniture & Bedding" as well as "Real Estate [...] Houses, Lots & Farms for Sale. / F. Kent.". Other signs along Spring Street include: "Express Printing Office", "[...] Estate Brokers", "Plumbing", "E.Butterick's Paper Patterns / Sewing Machines for Rent & for Sale", "Herald Steam Printing House" and "Mercantile Law Collection Rooms". Several of the city's houses are situated on the hill pictured in the right distance.
