Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Captain Peter Soo Hoo, a Sgt. Ung and Lt. Richard Loo walk in their National Guard uniforms down Wilshire Blvd. during a New Year's Day Parade in 1943. Peter Soo Hoo, a well-known community leader in Chinatown, served as president of the Chinese American Association.
