Boys on bikes watch artist Aaron Donovan (standing on ladder) paint a mural on the side wall of El Batey Market, located on corner of Echo Park Avenue and Delta Street, across from the Magic Gas gas station and Morton Avenue. For generations, "Chicken Corner" has been one of the nerve centers of the Echo Park neighborhood. Not everyone in the area knows, or necessarily accepts the name Chicken Corner, which came about after Donovan's mural depicted a bunch of unusual chickens. El Batey Market was cut in half to allow space for Chango coffee house. When Chango opened in 2004, its owners took out most of that wall, and the chickens, in order to create a window on the Delta Street side of the building. The mural was painted on cinderblock in 1997, and was originally titled "Moron". Photograph dated September 12, 1997.
