Description
Photograph of the old school house at Chinese Camp, Tuolumne County, ca.1900-1940. A staircase on the right leads to a small, covered porch that extends to the entrance to the school house which is "still in use". The roof is smooth and inclined, while the building is composed of horizontal planks. What appears to be an exhaust pipe extends out of one of the several windows on the side of the building. A dark stain can be seen on the wall just above it while a small, boarded shed sits at left. A hill is visible in the left background while trees are visible in the right background. Picture file card reads "To the right, the wavy appearance of the ground shows where the early miners worked the ground around the school house until they reached the cemetery on the right side. Gold was found her in 1856".
