Photograph caption dated October 2, 1959 reads, "Burbank officer Ralph Posten, left, exhales into 'Breathalyzer' newly purchased blood alcohol test instrument as Capt. Robert Loranger holds mouthpiece. New test is recognized by courts and replaces Intoximeter method. New machine works on photo cell principle of light transmission through control tube and tube containing liquid exposed to drunk-test breath."
