Description
Photograph of a composite panoramic view of Fort Wingate, New Mexico, ca.1895-1898. About twenty one- or two-story buildings, including dwellings, stables, barns, and sheds form a tight grouping and are constructed mostly in the same style. A wooden fence abuts most of the buildings. Livestock graze in a corral at left. Trees grow in the foreground. Buttes rise in the distance. The caption reads "Forts like this at Wingate, New Mexico, protected the settlers moving west to California and Oregon. Photo about 1895".
