Photograph was edited for publication purposes Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on June 17, 1923. He was a pro football player, playing for the Chicago Rockets (1946-1948) and the Los Angeles Rams (1949-1957). He later served as the Director of Athletics for the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1969 to 1987. The nickname was for his unusual running style. He died on January 28, 2004. Photograph caption dated December 17, 1953 reads "The Hirschs, newest Valley residents, take time out from neighborhood welcoming party to hang Christmas wreath on brand new house. 'We've got a new house, a stove, no money, but lots of friends,' Hirsch grinned." Pictured are Los Angeles running back Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch and his wife, Ruth, at their home in Van Nuys.
