Description
Photograph of an aerial view, looking northeast over the original sub-divisions of Westchester, September 12, 1949. The intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Manchester Avenue, at center, is surrounded by hundreds of residences arranged within suburban sub-divisions. Each block appears to be almost a mirror image of the one next to it. The homes are set back from the streets with similar sidewalks and grass-filled front lawns. A cul-de-sac is visible right of center, while rows of utility polls are visible to the far left. A solitary air raid warden's shack is pictured at left center, facing Manchester Boulevard, one of the few remaining from World War II. In the distance, more residential sub-divisions stretch to what appears to be the bottom of a hill, or mountain ridge.
