Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated January 28, 1962 partially reads, "An elderly widow pays $61.50 to have the 'snakes' removed from her house... A young couple strain their budget to pay $600 for a $165 accordion to enroll their son in a 'band program.' The 'program' never materializes after the accordion is sold... A Canoga Park man is 'given' $500 by a home improvement contractor to pay his bills so he can afford an aluminum siding job on his house. He doesn't realize until too late that the contractor added the 'gift' to the price of the job. These are typical victims of a growing number of white collar racketeers - the door-to-door swindlers. Suburbias like the San Fernando Valley with vast housing tracts are their favorite working grounds. It's a toss-up who's getting hurt more - the householder or the legitimate door-to-door salesmen who make up the vast majority of persons doing business at the doors of the Valley and every other part of the nation." Mrs. Alex Burns can be seen checking salesman's credentials.
