Hollywood director Hal Roach and San Francisco dentist Dr. Charles Strub formed the Los Angeles Turf Club in 1933.
Photograph article dated December 27, 1960 reads, "Movie producer Mervyn LeRoy (left), who is also president of Hollywood Turf Club, compliments Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Foley on the opening day program. Foley is chairman of the board at Santa Anita." Second caption reads, "Edward T. Foley, chairman of the board of Los Angeles Turf Club, Inc., and Mrs. Foley greet distinguished guests to the Directors' Room."
