Description
Original program notes: Haida Project | Sept 1 – Nov 30 1990 The Haida Project is a series of events exploring the 10,000 year old culture of the Haida people from the Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia. Haida sculptors Jim Hart and Reg Davidson will be in residence at Headlands Center for the Arts from September 1 through November 30, 1990. Carving large red cedar logs, Hart will make a totem pole and Davidson will make a canoe. Carving sessions are open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays 12-4PM. In conjunction with their carving, there will also be a variety of lectures and discussions at the Center and the H.M. de Young Museum, films at the Exploratorium and Pacific Film Archive, and exhibitions at Meridian Gallery and the Lowie Museum of Anthropology. The Haida Project is sponsored by The Capp Street Project, Headlands Center for the Arts, and The Society for Art Publications of the Americas.
