Description
Image of a giant caricature of comedic actors John Henshaw and May Ten Broeck, with a medal for "First Place Fun," sitting on the dome of the administration building in the Court of Honor, also known as the White City, at the World's Fair Columbian Exhibition of 1893 in Chicago, Illinois, with spectators in the foreground looking towards the couple and the buildings, fountain, grand basin, and the Statue of the Republic; the poster advertises the musical comedy "The New Nabobs."
Probable date approximated by cataloger based on show history and buildings depicted in image; William Gill rewrote "The Nabobs" for Henshaw and Ten Broeck and the new piece known as the "New Nabobs" was first presented in October 1893 (Ganzl, William B. Gill, page 250). "1052 / Liebler & Maass / Lith."--text, bottom right.
